Position Title: Adult Mental Health Counsellor
Location: Hamilton
Full-Time Position
Salary Range: $58,000 – $62,000

Introduction:
The Adult Mental Health Counsellor plays a crucial role in promoting the mental health and well-being of adult clients at DAHAC. This professional is dedicated to conducting individual counselling sessions and developing, implementing, and coordinating support services. The role encompasses providing comprehensive mental health counselling, assessment, treatment, and educational services using a variety of clinical, alternative complementary, and integrative energy health practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual counselling and therapeutic interventions.
  • Develop and implement client-specific plans and programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust plans as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional development related to mental health and addictions services.
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure confidentiality is upheld in accordance with applicable laws and ethical standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to integrate holistic, strength-based, and evidence-based practices into client and program interventions from a trauma-informed perspective.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous cultures, customs, traditions, and the historical impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma on Indigenous Peoples.
  • Familiarity with mental health and addictions counselling models, techniques, and modalities.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act, Duty to Report, and OCSWSSW Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice.
  • Proficiency in using tools, systems, and databases for client service delivery and case management.
  • Strong self-care, self-reflection, time management, organization, and communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Psychology, Concurrent Disorders, or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 1+ years of experience working with individuals with complex needs.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ language, culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Prior experience with Electronic Medical Records systems or other documentation databases is an asset.
