About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to join an established manufacturing operation specializing in the design and production of medium to large transfer and tandem dies for the automotive industry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and improving dies used in metal stamping and forming operations.

Key Responsibilities

Tool & Die Assembly & Maintenance

  • Assemble tooling and dies for metal stamping and metal forming equipment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair dies in a production environment.
  • Perform die maintenance and corrective repairs to minimize production downtime.
  • Hand-work dies in the press during spotting and tryout activities.
  • Fit, assemble, and disassemble tooling components using hand tools.
  • Assist other Tool Shop personnel and apprentices as required.

Machining & Die Repair

Operate and maintain a variety of machine tools to manufacture, repair, and modify die components, including:

  • Manual milling machines
  • Lathes
  • Drill presses
  • Tapping equipment
  • Grinding equipment
  • Other conventional machine tools

Perform operations such as:

  • Cutting
  • Turning
  • Milling
  • Planing
  • Boring
  • Grinding
  • Drilling
  • Tapping
  • General die modification and repair

Machine components to prescribed dimensions, specifications, and surface finishes.

Quality & Precision Measurement

  • Verify machined components for conformance to specifications.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to inspect dimensions and tolerances.
  • Identify tooling issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain a high standard of precision and workmanship throughout all operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Troubleshoot tooling and die-related production issues.
  • Recommend design or process changes to improve tool and die quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Tool Shop.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to resolve tooling and production issues.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of Tool & Die experience.
  • Trades certificate, diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of metal stamping and forming dies.
  • Experience assembling, maintaining, repairing, and modifying production tooling.
  • Proficiency with manual machining equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • English language proficiency required.

Technical Skills
